Originally built for a Mr Harry Leader...

Designed by an English architect, Riverview Lodge was built in 1903 for a gentleman with the name of Harry Leader, who then sold it to Arthur Lane.
The Lane family owned the house until 1912 when it was sold to William Henry Atkinson, thought to be the nephew of Sir Henry Atkinson, three times Premier of New Zealand.

A series of owners followed and by the 1960s the house had falen into a state of disrepair and to the locals became known as a "haunted house".

The house has now undergone extensive renovations and has been restored to its original glory. It reflects the grace and style of the period whith fine examples of carved Kauri and Rimu fireplaces and stairs.

All rooms have ensuite / private bathrooms, heating, colour TV and balconies which provide superb river views.
